The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
