Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
